What is MBTI?

For the uninitiated, Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator is an introspective self-report questionnaire first created by two psychologists; Isabel Briggs Meyers and Katharine Cook Briggs.

They both derived this theory from the book on Psychological types written by Carl Jung; an erudite Swiss psychiatrist, and psychologist.

The theory of MBTI is an attempt to classify human beings and their behavior based on how they perceive the world and make decisions.

Why Understanding MBTI Types is Important?

Throughout the ages, there is always an attempt by psychologists to try and understand the reason behind human behavior. People are so much interested in knowing about each other, and one thing that motivates a lot of people to study personality types is understanding introverts and extroverts.

Also, for medical students, knowing your personality type will help you to understand your strengths and weaknesses and how to use them efficiently in being successful in your career.

Apart from that, it is also fun studying the MBTI in school, as it broods understanding and tolerance among colleagues.

Also, there is this belief that you can only find certain MBTI types in medicine because others may not cope well with the stress of medical school.

But in my experience, I have seen encountered all the 16 MBTI personality types in medical school. Though some perform better than others academically, there is no specific marker for which type will outperform the others.

So let’s meet the 16 MBTI personality types of medical students.
